Frustrated by the feeling of your bed moving/sliding on your wood flooring every time you toss and turn in your sleep? Wondering what could be the cause of this and how you can stop it?
You can install an area rug, relocate the bed or even affix it on the wall to prevent sliding on the wood floor. Fix the Velcro Pads or rubber underneath the Bed’s Feet to get rid of any movement of your bed to enjoy a silent-free sleep.
Why do beds keep sliding on wood floors?
The underside of beds’ feet typically lack any traction and are usually smooth. As such, most beds will easily slide/slip-on similarly smooth surfaces like hardwood due to lack of grip. While movement mostly occurs as you step in or get out of bed, it may also occur as you turn in bed at night. This can affect the quality of your sleep. Fortunately, there are several measures that you can take to prevent your bed from sliding, as discussed in the next section.
How to Stop a Bed from Sliding on Wood Floors
Install an Area Rug
Installing a rug between the bed and the hardwood floor will not only prevent the bed from sliding but also add an element of visual appeal to your bedroom. In addition, area rugs provide a warm underfoot feel whenever you get out of bed and step on them.
To ensure that you effectively prevent the bed from sliding, invest in an area rug that’s large enough to cover all four feet of your bed. For instance, if you have a king-size bed, we recommend going for a rug that’s at least 9×12-inches.
Affix the Bed Frame to the Wall
Mounting the bed’s headboard to the wall is a permanent solution if your bed is slipping on your hardwood floor. However, before doing so, you might want to get the wall inspected to ensure that it has good structural stability- as you’ll be drilling into it. The tools that you need to get this kind of job done include a drill, some screws, and a few wall plugs.
One problem with this solution is that it isn’t as DIY-friendly as the other options on this list. It takes a bit of skill to correctly mount the headboard to the wall and prevent future sliding. If you can’t get it done by yourself, you’ll have to call in a handyman. In addition, it may be difficult to dismount the headboard from the wall in case you want to relocate the bed in the future.
Finally, if you like to rearrange your room every so often, this might not be the best option for you; as you’ll be leaving behind unsightly drill holes every time you remove the bed from the position you’d previously attached it.
Install Velcro Pads underneath the Bed’s Feet
Velcro pads are another great furniture stopper option. Simply attach the Velcro side to your bed’s feet and the adhesive on the underside will ensure the bed sticks to the floor. Velcro pads are also flat than rubber pads, hence ensuring your bed frame lies more even to the floor. One disadvantage- though- is that you’ll be left with stain marks from the adhesives if you decide to move your bed in the future.
Install Rubber Floor Pads underneath the Bed’s Feet
Rubber floor pads are a great stopper material for preventing furniture from sliding on different types of surfaces- including hardwood and vinyl. The most significant advantage that this option has over installing Velcro pads is that it doesn’t have any adhesives.
You- therefore- don’t have to worry about leaving behind unsightly marks on your hardwood surface in case you relocate the bed in the future. However, rubber floor pads are more visible compared to adhesive-based pads; and are thus not the best option aesthetic-wise.
Relocate your Bed
Sometimes, beds tend to slip on hardwood floors simply due to where they’re positioned. As such, relocating your bed from the center of the room to the corner may stop the sliding issue.
